Atlas Settings

Atlas Settings is the central location for managing Atlas licenses, users, targets, and configuration. You must have the Atlas Admin role to update Settings. To open it, select Settings at the bottom of the Atlas side navigation bar.

The Settings page has four tabs:

  • License: Manage Atlas licenses and license status.
  • Users: Assign Atlas roles and manage seat-based access.
  • Targets: Configure connections to remote Splunk environments.
  • Configuration: Review global validation, metric indexes, AI, and feature-specific configuration status.

License Settings​

Use the License tab to add and manage Atlas license keys.

  1. Open Settings and select License.
  2. Select Add License.
  3. Paste the Atlas License Key, then select Save.
  4. Review the license status, expiration date, and seat availability on the License page.

Atlas supports license stacking. To add another valid license key, repeat the same process from the License tab.

For seat-based licenses, Atlas displays an over-seat warning for seven days. Use the Users tab to adjust access assignments before the warning period ends.

User Settings​

Use the Users tab to assign Atlas roles to Splunk users. Select a role for each user, then select Save Changes to apply the updates.

  • Atlas Admin: Full Atlas access, including Settings and user management.
  • Atlas Creator: Can create and modify content in supported Atlas features.
  • Atlas Viewer: Read-focused access to dashboards, reports, and supported workflows.
  • No Access: No Atlas feature access.

Atlas Viewers do not consume seats. In seat-based licensing, Atlas Creators and Atlas Admins consume seats when granted access. For the complete feature-permission matrix, see Atlas Roles.

Target Settings​

Use the Targets tab to configure an Atlas Target: a remote Splunk environment that Atlas can search or manage through a service account.

To add a target, provide the following information:

  • Service Account Username: An administrative service account on the target Splunk server.
  • Service Account Password: The service-account password, stored using Splunk Secret Manager.
  • Management URI: The target's management URI, including the management port, typically 8089.
  • Web URL: The target's Splunk Web URL, used when Atlas opens target-specific workflows.

Atlas Targets are primarily intended for Dedicated Deployments and other remote Splunk environments. Users configuring or using Targets need the Splunk list_storage_passwords capability. Limit this capability to trusted administrators because it can expose stored secrets.

Configuration Settings​

Use the Configuration tab to review Atlas configuration status. The page groups settings into Global Configuration, Atlas Features, Premium Integrations, and Power Utilities. Green status indicators show that a section is configured; red indicators identify configuration that requires attention.

Global Configuration​

Global Configuration contains settings shared across Atlas:

  • Environment Configuration: Validates that required indexes are defined and that Splunk KV Store is reachable.
  • Usage Summarization: Enables the summarization searches used for Data Utilization and License Usage reporting.
  • Atlas Email URL: Sets the Atlas URL used in Atlas alert emails to direct users to the appropriate Splunk instance.
  • Metric Index Configuration: Selects where Atlas stores summarized metrics and operational data.

Metric Index Configuration includes settings for Assessment, License Usage, Data Utilization, Search Hub, Monitor, Atlas Audit, and STIG Compliance. Select the appropriate index for each setting, ensure the required permissions are available, and confirm that the status indicator is healthy.

AI Configuration​

Atlas uses named Splunk AI Toolkit connections for supported AI features. Configure AI from Settings > Configuration > Atlas Features > AI Configuration.

Before enabling AI, confirm that:

  • The Splunk AI Toolkit app is installed and enabled.
  • Python for Scientific Computing is installed and enabled.
  • The current user has the Splunk AI Toolkit capabilities required to use and list named connections.
  • At least one approved named LLM connection is saved in Splunk AI Toolkit.

To configure Atlas AI:

  1. Open AI Configuration and review the validation checks.
  2. Enable Splunk AI.
  3. Select the approved named connection.
  4. Save the configuration.

Atlas currently uses this configuration for the Search Hub Search Information modal, where it can generate a plain-language explanation of selected SPL.

Feature-Specific Configuration​

The Configuration tab also shows status and validation for individual Atlas features. Configure those settings through the appropriate feature documentation:
